Moving
With the mouse and with the arrow keys
With the mouse
- Drag the body of a selected object, or the ring around a handle.
- The move snaps from the point where you grabbed it: grab the object by one of its vertices and it lands exactly on another vertex.
- With ⇧ you move only horizontally or vertically (along the axis you moved most on), and without snapping. Pressed mid-gesture, it applies from the next movement.
- With ⌥ at the start you move copies: the originals stay where they were. See Clipboard and duplicate.
During the gesture only the view moves; the document is written on release, in a single step.
From one page to another
An object that is on a page (or in the drawing) and is dragged over another page enters it: what counts is where the center of its bounding box falls. It stays at the same point on screen, goes above the children of the destination page, and that page becomes the active one. Outside every sheet, the object stays on its own page. Pages never enter another page, and inside an open container you cannot change page.
With the arrow keys
With the Selection tool active and something selected:
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| ← → ↑ ↓ | moves by Arrow step (Project panel) |
| ⇧ + arrow | moves by ten steps |
| ⌥ ← / ⌥ → | rotates by Rotation step around the center of the selection |
| ⌥ ⇧ ← / ⌥ ⇧ → | reflects horizontally |
| ⌥ ⇧ ↑ / ⌥ ⇧ ↓ | reflects vertically |
Each press is one undo step; reflecting does not repeat when you hold the key down. The arrow keys do not change page, and do not work while you are typing in a field or in a text.
