The color picker
Hue, saturation, brightness, opacity, hex
How it is made
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Square | saturation horizontally and brightness vertically: click or drag the dot |
| Hue | the hue slider, from 0 to 360 |
| Opacity | the opacity slider, from 0 to 100 |
| Hex | the color as text: 3, 6 or 8 characters (the last two are the opacity) |
What opens it
The Fill and Stroke swatches, the handle of a gradient color stop (in the panel and on the canvas), the color of a filter (Drop shadow, Flood). Whatever opened it determines whose color it is.
How it closes
On its own, when the pointer moves away from the menu and from whatever opened it (after a quarter of a second). It stays open while you hold down a mouse button — you can drag outside the square — or while you type in the box. Every gesture in the picker — a drag in the square, a slider, a typed hex value — is one undo step.
